SMS - Chocolate Pudding

It feels like forever since I have particpated in Sweet Melissa Sundays! This week's recipe, Chocolate Pudding, was selected by Leslie of Lethally Delicious.

Chocolate Pudding isn't a dessert I automatically gravitate to. I'm not sure why, probably has something to do with all those Bill Cosby commercials when I was younger. Although, I do miss Jell-O Frozen Pudding Pops - yum. So while I wasn't like 'yay - we're making pudding', I was pleased to be making something I had never made before.

Fairly simple to put together, cream and chocolate are whisked into eggs and sugar and then poured into ramekins and baked in a water bath. My only complaint/observation at this point was that for a recipe with only a handful of ingredients, I had a sinkful of dirty dishes. The baked puddings are cooled in their bath and then cooled further in the refrigerator for several hours.

Now, what I was expecting was pudding like I had grown up with. Slightly goopy and something caught in between a solid and a liquid. What I was met with at the first spoonful was silky, velvety, creamy chocolately goodness that was thick, yet light. I'm calling it chocolate silk. I probably used less chocolate then called for and a lower cacao content but I was fine with the subtle flavor. It really allowed me to enjoy the texture of the dessert and not be overwhelmed by the intensity that sometimes accompanies darker chocolate.

This was amazing and I am so glad I participated this week. You can find the recipe on Leslie's blog, here.

  1. Lovely presentation :o) Glad you liked it. I haven't made this yet (hubby is not a big fan of pudding). Might have to scale it down.

  8. I'm so with you on the pudding pops - miss those! I'm honestly not a big fan of pudding though, so I sat out, but I'm glad you enjoyed the recipe.
